The Montessori Method of education is a system of knowledge for children that
seeks to develop natural interest and activities rather than use formal teaching
methods. A Montessori classroom places an emphasis on hands-on learning and
developing real world skills. It proposes that children have to be respected as
different from adults and as individuals that are different from each other.
Montessori recognizes that children have a natural desire that inspires them to
reach their potential. Their minds are like fertile field. Their inherent love of
learning is stimulated when they are given opportunities to engr in
meaningful activities with a proper balance of autonomy and guidance from
specially trained teachers.
Montessori is an education philosophy and practice self-motivated growth for children and adolescents in all areas of their development, with a goal of nurturing each child’s natural desire for knowledge, understanding, and respect. It is a specific child centered method of education that involves child-led activities (referred as to “WORK”), classrooms with children of varying ages and teachers who encourage independence among their pupils.
The Montessori method was developed by Dr.Maria Montessori. It was first born in Chiaravalle, Italy on 31st August 1870, but then soon after many trials and errors they started their work and teach to children during early 9o’s (6th January 1907). Maria Montessori concept showed preference for work to play, silence while working, they also displayed a sense ofpersonal dignity like explosion into writing. discovery of reading, manifested spontaneous self discipline and obedience. Her main method of assisting children was to unfold and develop.
